The following coversation (her management won’t let us call it an interview) took place during SPINonline foreign correspondent Jeff Johnson’s last night on the road with Lollapalooza. Jeff sat with Courtney and Frances immediately after Hole’s set at Pine Knob in Detroit. He had waited around for a few days trying to talk to Courtney, but the lid on the Hole camp was pretty tight.
Jeff: “I guess after Drew Barrymore arrived, and immediately wiped out all the mud by the 2nd stage, security just started to unravel, and it happened. The interview was frequently stopped in order for Courtney to answer Frances Bean’s questions: ‘See, that’s Coco’s dad playing guitar. . . See, that’s Coco’s mom playing guitar,’ and a few verses of ‘Itsy Bitsy Spiderm,’ or some song like that.’

Courtney Love’s private e-mail is apparently being intercepted by teenage computer hackers. Courtney claims that countless have been posted regarding her releationship with Nine Inch Nail’s mainman Trent Reznor. The messages may have been read by up to 30 million Internet users. As if there were any secrets left after reading her interview in the February issue of Spin. Courtney contacted a writer at New Musical Express in London, with the disclaimer saying: “Any postings made by me have not been me.” A further message follows, allegedly from Courtney, in which she mentions Kurt Cobain and attacks Reznor’s band. It read: “I’m so damned reactionary to petty shit like this one. Who in the NIN crew said I sucked. I’m laughing so f—-king hard. How would they know…they were all too busy getting sucked off for passes. NIN are the only band I know of on the alternative fray with a backstage and crew situation going back to the poffy-haired ice age taht Kurt helped kill.” Courtney has also issued a statement denying that there is any possiblity of reopening the inquiry into Kurt’s death. Tom Grant, former bodyguard and driver who was hired to find Kurt when he absconded frpm an LA drug detox clinic told KMPC radio in LA that he believed that the death was no suicide and that there was a conspiracy to cover up a dmurer. Seattle police now stress there is no basis for these allegations.

Blender is a bimonthly CD-ROM magazine, published by an enterprising woman named Jennifer Von Feldt. It covers culture from cartoons to rockers (and rock from Soul Coughing to Tori Amos). For her Volume 1 cover subject, Von Feldt chose a female rocker, Courtney Love.
“Blender has a funny format, with a lot of novelty value. But Courtney, more than most, symbolizes use of the Net.”
Blender music editor Dan Cata lano agrees; he proposed the story on Love and laptops. Although Love is famous for her Internet postings (she expresses her opinions and reacts to others), she has also had expert imitators. Blender did its own version: turning a sonnet by Shakespeare into a Love post.
Says Catalano, “It’s such a Net story. The whole idea of what your identity is. What you can control and what you can’t.”
Love, he says, was their first and only choice: No one else has used the Net like her. “There really isn’t one other star we could use. Some do post but don’t get so involved; Courtney’s quite obsessive. And whether or not that backfires, who can say?
“Love has pointed out messages as not hers. But are they actually imitations? Or is it just Internet damage control?”

The groupies are back. or hookers. or strippers. ?theyre here and they ALL look miserable. I remember this routine ?from the heavy metal years….theyre waiting to get PICKED!!!! I ?cannot fucking believe my eyes , as i say hello, look at the floor and ?get my key. So embarassed. i see the “People” wrangling chicks for ?the band and themselves. I see some of the girls looking at me like ?they’re embarassed to be caught doing this sort of thing. I dont ?look back at them im ashamed.YUCK. ?I go to sleep disturbed as hell. But what can i do.? Right? but they seem to treat women pretty well ?as ive said,maybe they like their Moms. I dont think these guys ?”demand” picking sessions, i think they think that its a normal “rock” ?activity,i think these guys get these kids so much nookie they dont ?know what to do with it, The singer of korn described big decadent ?scenes that sounded cool and funny but only if everyone is really ?participating, and I think it sends out a ‘vibe’ and i think that vibe is ?foul and it stinks. I think audiences pick up on that vibe or image- ?that its Ok to disabuse and degrade us. I think the head “Person” of ?the Korn/LimpBizket (and amazingly the Backstreet boys. i dont ?even want to THINK about that) needs to cool his shit out or im ?going to start naming him, out loud and everywhere, and whats he ?going to do? Not ask us on the Family Values tour? Make it wierd at ?Interscope? better is he going to say im a crazy stalker groupie? ?uhhuh. ok baby.Ive stayed awake at night thinking about these ?poor stupid girls, and praying that these guys will get some ?terrifying girlfriends soon so this shit stops. and after Woodstock i ?just feel the SOURCE of this rape environment is buried somehow in ?this story- because this did not happen before now, since 91. ?Maybe im crazy ,maybe somehow, all of the sudden the boys got ?really fed up with all the singer songwriter girls and all the gentle ?emo alternative bands, i would if i was raging with testorone. damm ?straight id seek out a boy band where No Girls Allowed was the ?deal.
