at a recent event in carnegie hall jk was asked the now infamous question:

Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?

to which she replied:

My truthful answer to you… I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. [ovation.] … Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent? But, he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that’s how i always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying I knew a girl once, whose hair… [laughter]. I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, “Dumbledore’s gay!” [laughter] “If I’d known it would make you so happy, I would have announced it years ago!”

Jo also said after revelation: “You needed something to keep you going for the next 10 years! …Oh, my god, the fan fiction now, eh?”

aaaw, bless. i always new there was a reason for those twinkly eyes 😉

issues with internet explorer {sigh}

it seems i have been having some problems with marilyn’s shampoo crashing ininternet explorer. i was a bit wary that this might happen after i put up the digg widget in the footer because i’d had problems with external javascript on a flickr badge before. however i must confess i hadn’t got around to checking it myself yet (toothache, birthday, blah blah blah) but as it turns out yes indeed it was causing problems.
so, i dutifuly stripped out the digg code only to refresh and find the page still crashing. hmm.
process of illimination, i thought, and pulled out all the external things i had added recently, replacing them one at a time to find the culprit.

turns out that blessed ie (7 included) was taking issue with:

the digg widget
the last fm widget
and
the twitter plugin

all of which work just dandy on firefox and safari.
honestly, i could cry…

i will try and find an ie-compatibale solution to these as i really liked having them – especially the twitter plugin – but i wish i didn’t have to…

god hates fags

</p

as if laura mallory wasn’t enough i’ve just watched louis theroux’s documentary on the phelps family and their particularly twisted brand of christian non-logic. totally obsessed with homosexuality (or ‘taking it up the tailpipe’ as mrs phelps puts it…) and fond of such pleasant family outings as picketing the funerals of soldiers who died in iraq (for being ‘a sodomite nation of flag-worshiping idolators”) and swedish furniature shops. don’t ask about that last one.
they are needless to say ostracised and reviled. and quite rightly so. theirs is a particularly hateful god who “duped you into going to war so he could punish you”
of course at the heart of it all is a man who has made a god of himself. mr phelps senior (gramps) is your classic tyrannical cult leader only with the added bonus of never having to actually recruit followers, he just bred them…

weird, horrific and fascinating.

Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged, Making Evil Look Innocent

i was really interested to hear this week that melissa anelli from pottercast finally managed to interview the infamous laura mallory. melissa is a smart lady and i can’t wait to read this interview, though sadly i am going to have to wait for the book she is writing to see it. as much as i enjoy a good laura mallory dissing i am particularly intrigued by this because i know that, despite being the webmistress of one of the two biggest potter fansites (the other being mugglenet, of course) and one of the most prominant figures in the hp fandom, she will aproach it with objectivty and maturity rather than just screaming fangirl bile.

it was really fascinating… really illuminating and i feel i can write fairly about her now. i have a grudging respect for her conviction… (but) it was frustrating – every time you get into a really heated arguement you hit up against the wall of belief.. when someone says ‘this is what i believe’ there is nothing you can say to that…

i’m really pleased to hear that actor jim broadbent has been confirmed for the part of slughorn in the movie of half-blood prince. i absolutely love him and i think he will be perfect for the part. slughorn is essentialy a decent chap but with a penchant for fame-by association and a few dark shadows lurking in his past. i can’t think of anyone better for the role.
